Abortion or medical termination of pregnancy is an individual choice. There is nothing about it good or bad.
Abortion or MTP can be done on the following grounds-
Humanitarian causes- when pregnancy is the result of rape. I feel it is a valid and sound reason.
Eugenic- When the fetus is malformed due to genetic reasons or disorders and is not likely to survive in the outside world or would be very much physically handicapped and a burden to soicety.
Therapeutic- When pregnancy endangers the life of mother. Certain disorders like pre-ecclampsia, ecclampsia (seizures due to very high BP), psychiatric disorders, critical heart disorders can lead to even death of the mother, stroke, lifetime physical impairment and sometimes even blindness.
Social- When pregnancy is the result of contraceptive failure and it is not possible for the woman to have the baby due to social and economic reasons.
All the above reasons stated above are valid in my opinion and are strong enough reasons for a woman to seek an abortion.
