Hostels are preferably given to those who are from states other than Delhi or joined through all India quota.
Hostels whether for girls or boys do not have attached washrooms. Post graduates are generally given single seater rooms. Whereas, UG students can get even upto triple sharing rooms although single seater rooms are also available.
If you are a postgraduate, you will get upto 17k ad hra in your monthly salary which is automatically deducted if you choose to stay in a hostel or else credited into your account if you don’t. For an undergraduate the hostel fees is somewhere around 5k.
Many students even if alloted hostel do not stay in their rooms instead sub let it to others and earn money through this practice.
There is also staff quarters in the campus wherein Many professors and senior residents live but they sometimes sublet one or two of their rooms if they are not using it to students.
Just opposite to gate no. 1 there is a resedential colony called vikram nagar wherein 1rk/1bhk/2bhk etc are available on rent. The rent charged is quite high and increases every year on an average of 2k.
3 years back the rent for unfurnished 1bhk was around 12k to 13k and now similar 1bhk are available for no less than 16 to 17k. Electricity charged is 8 to 11rs per unit varying from owner to owner along with 200rs monthly charges for water.
The resedential area Is managed by resedential welfare association which again charges Rs300 every month from each and every resident in the colony for maintenance of the colony.
The brokers charger 15 days of rent as brokerage and 1month rent has to be deposited as security money with the owner and rent increases 5 to 10% every 11 months with deed renewal.
Blocks A and B are more preferred as there uninterrupted water supply is available and as one moves farther to Block E water supply is affected immensely especially if the house doesn’t have a boring.
Usually owners do not provide ac and one must take it for rent which varies from 6k to 8k per season with Rs500 as security deposit.
Drinking water is usually obtained from a local supplier who charger Rs70 for 20l normal filter water and Rs120 for 20l bisleri water with Rs300 as security deposit.
The living facilities are just average and most live here because students don’t gave much of a choice and travelling in Delhi can be very time and energy consuming.
The owners do ” lot of drama while returning the security deposit while vacating the house and think of the deposit as their own. The water supply takes a hit during summers especially in May and June. Lots of construction is always going on in the society which adds to the noise pollution. People are just adding floors to their homes sonthey can rent it and earn monthly rental income without taking into account the space. Lots of street dogs are always running in the society.
The society does have a security guard and gates are closed at 12am and delivery boys are not given entry beyond 12am. The society also has cctv cameras installed.
It is a very congested and an overpriced society as they know most of them are doctors and earning more than 1lakh per month.
Laxmi nagar is 20mins away but again it is also very congested. Others are Preet vihar and lajpat nagar which are also very costly place to live.
